Physical and Chemical PropertiesAnhydrous stannous chloride is white orthorhombic crystals. Relative molecular weight 189.60. Relative density 3.95 (25℃). Melting point 246.5℃. Boiling point 652℃. Vapor pressure (×103Pa): 0.0133 (257℃), 0.133 (319℃), 1.333 (398℃), 13.332 (509℃). Insoluble in chloroform, soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone (55.6% at 18℃) and pyridine. UsesStannic chloride is used as a reducing agent, mordant, analytical reagent and dehydrating agent, and is also used as a catalyst for organic synthesis. ApplicationsAnhydrous tin dichloride is used in dyes, fragrances, mirror making, electroplating and other industries; and is used as ultra-high pressure lubricating oil, bleaching agent, reducing agent, mordant, decolorizing agent and analytical reagent, and is used for the determination of silver, arsenic, molybdenum and mercury. Strong reducing agent. Determine inorganic phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase activity in serum. Determine the phosphorus content in soil and plants by molybdenum blue method. Organic reaction catalyst. Used as reducing agent, mordant, acid tin plating, and as main salt. Used in the glass mirror industry as a sensitizer for silver nitrate plating to make the coating brighter. Adding this product during ABS electroplating will prevent the coating from falling off. Uses: Used for the determination of silver, arsenic, molybdenum, etc., and also used as a mordant and reducing agent

    Reactivity Profile:

STANNOUS CHLORIDE is a powerful reducing agent. Can react violently with oxidizing agents. Undergoes flaming reaction with bromine trifluoride [Mellor 2 Supp. 1:164 1956]. Catalyzes the exothermic rearrangement and polymerization of ethylene oxide [J. Soc. Chem. Ind. 68:179 1949]. Mixtures with calcium carbide can be ignited with a match, and the reaction proceeds with incandescence [Mellor 7:430 1946-47]. Reacts with hydrazine hydrate to give stannous dihydrazine chloride which decomposes explosively when heated [Mellor 7:430 1946-47]. Undergoes a strongly exothermic reaction with aqueous solutions of hydrogen peroxide having concentration exceeding 3%) [Chem. & Ind., 1949, 657].
