Polyvinyl pyrrolidone, abbreviated as PVP, is a non-ionic polymer compound that is the most distinctive and extensively studied fine chemical variety among N-vinylamide polymers. At present, it has developed into three categories: non-ionic, cationic, and anionic, as well as three specifications: industrial grade, pharmaceutical grade, and food grade. The series of homopolymers, copolymers, and crosslinked polymers with relative molecular weights ranging from thousands to over one million have been widely used due to their excellent and unique properties.
PVP is divided into four levels based on its average molecular weight, and is commonly represented by K values. Different K values represent the corresponding range of PVP average molecular weight. The K value is actually a characteristic value related to the relative viscosity of PVP aqueous solution, and viscosity is a physical quantity related to the molecular weight of the polymer. Therefore, the K value can be used to characterize the average molecular weight of PVP. Usually, the larger the K value, the higher the viscosity and stronger the adhesion.
