Aciclovir is a synthetic purine nucleoside analogue. It is mainly used for various infections caused by herpes simplex virus and can be used for primary or recurrent skin, mucous membrane, external genital infections and HSV infections occurring in immunodeficient individuals.
It is the drug of choice for the treatment of HSV encephalitis, and is superior to adenosine in reducing morbidity and mortality. It can also be used for herpes zoster, EBV, and varicella infections in immunodeficient individuals. Topical use is for skin only, and acyclovir has low skin absorption.

Function:

Stavudine is a nucleoside analog of thymidine that inhibits reverse transcriptase and has an in vitro activity against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It is a white to off-white crystalline powder; melting point 161-166 ° C; soluble in water, slightly soluble in lower alcohols. The chemical name is (2'-3'-didehydro-2'-3'-dideoxythymidine (d4T). Reverse transcriptase is a method in which RNA can be transcribed into DNA to replicate genetic information from RNA to DNA. The enzyme, therefore also known as the RNA-reverse transcriptase inhibitor, is an antiretroviral drug that blocks the activity of retroviral reverse transcriptase. Each retrovirus has a reverse transcriptase that can be inherited. Information is transcribed from RNA into DNA. Protease inhibitors are the second class of antiretroviral drugs.
