Sodium sulfobutyl - β - cyclodextrin is a product of the substitution reaction between β - cyclodextrin and 1,4-butanesulfonyl lactone, which mainly occurs at the 2,3,6 hydroxyl positions of the glucose unit in β - cyclodextrin. β - cyclodextrin is composed of 7 glucose pyranose bonds connected by α - (1,4) glycosidic bonds, with 21 possible substitution sites, but the actual degree of substitution generally does not exceed 10%. It belongs to the sulfonic acid derivative of anionic highly water-soluble cyclodextrin.
