Betadex sulfobutyl ether sodium (SBECD) is a chemically modified, water-soluble cyclodextrin primarily used as a pharmaceutical excipient. Its primary function is to act as a drug carrier, encapsulating poorly water-soluble lipophilic drugs to vastly improve their aqueous solubility, stability, and bioavailability in oral, and topical medications.

Application

Solubility Enhancer: It features a unique, ring-shaped, three-dimensional structure. The hydrophobic interior encapsulates "guest" drug molecules, while the sulfobutyl ether groups on the exterior make the entire complex highly soluble in water.

Versatile Excipient: It can act as a solubilizer, wetting agent, chelating agent, and taste-masking agent.
