Description	Atomoxetine is a norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor approved for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The brand name is Strattera. Atomoxetine hydrochloride, commonly known by the brand name Strattera, is a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). It helps improve attention, reduce hyperactivity, and control impulsiveness. Unlike many ADHD medications, atomoxetine is not a stimulant and is not a controlled substance. It is typically used alongside psychological, educational, and social measures.

Mechanism of Action

Atomoxetine selectively inhibits the presynaptic norepinephrine transporter (NET), preventing the reuptake of norepinephrine (NE) in the brain. This action increases the concentration of NE in the synaptic cleft, which elevates noradrenaline levels in the central nervous system. Atomoxetine also increases dopamine (DA) levels in the prefrontal cortex, but not in the striatum or nucleus accumbens. It has little to no affinity for serotonin or dopamine transporters or other neurotransmitter receptors.
