Chemical properties: Cyclohexane is volatile and highly flammable. Its vapor forms an explosive mixture with air, with an explosive limit of 1.3-8.3% by volume. Highly flammable and explosive when exposed to open flames and high heat. Contact with oxidants can cause strong reactions and even lead to combustion. In a fire scene, heated containers pose a risk of explosion. Its vapor is heavier than air and can spread to a considerable distance at lower levels. It will ignite and reignite when exposed to a source of fire. It is relatively stable to acids and bases, and does not react with moderate concentrations of nitric acid or mixed acids at low temperatures. It undergoes nitration reaction with dilute nitric acid in a sealed tube above 100 ℃, producing nitrocyclohexane. Under platinum or palladium catalysis, dehydrogenation reaction occurs above 350 ℃ to produce benzene. Isomerization occurs at high temperatures with alumina, molybdenum sulfide, cobalt, nickel, and aluminum to produce methyl pentane. Under mild conditions, it isomerizes with aluminum trichloride to form methylcyclopentane. Industrial use for the preparation of cyclohexanol, cyclohexanone, caprolactam, adipic acid, nylon 6, etc. Cyclohexane is mainly used for the production of cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone (about 90%), and further for the production of adipic acid and caprolactam. They are monomers used in the production of polyamide. Used in small quantities as industrial and coating solvents, it is an excellent solvent for resins, fats, paraffin oils, butyl rubber, etc. In addition, cyclohexane is also used in the pharmaceutical industry for the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates. Cyclohexane is particularly suitable as a solvent for styrene butadiene rubber, and its consumption is generally more than 4 times the feeding amount. 90% of cyclohexane is used for the production of cyclohexanone, which is an intermediate product in the production of caprolactam and adipic acid. It is also used as a general solvent, chromatographic analysis standard substance, photoresist solvent, and organic synthesis.
