Product Overview
Cyclohexane is a colorless, flammable liquid with a mild petroleum-like odor. It is supplied at ≥99.9% purity and is widely used as a non-polar solvent in chromatography, as a raw material for nylon production, and as a cleaning agent. Cyclohexane is a cycloalkane that is practically insoluble in water but miscible with most organic solvents.

Synthetic Process
Cyclohexane is produced industrially by the catalytic hydrogenation of benzene in the presence of a nickel or platinum catalyst. The crude product is purified by distillation to achieve high purity grades.

Mechanism of Action
As a non-polar solvent, cyclohexane dissolves non-polar compounds such as oils, fats, and waxes. It is used as a mobile phase in chromatography and as a solvent in polymerization reactions. In the chemical industry, it serves as a precursor for adipic acid and caprolactam, which are monomers for nylon.
