In vitro study

Erythromycin inhibits growth of P. falciparum with IC 50 and IC 90 values of 58.2 μM and 104.0 μM, respectively.

Biological activity
Erythromycin cyanate is a macrolide antibiotic produced by the actinomycete Streptomyces erythreus, which exhibits broad-spectrum antibacterial activity. Erythromycin cyanate acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria and inhibits RNA-dependent protein synthesis by blocking transpeptidation and/or translocation reactions without affecting nucleic acid synthesis.

Chemical property

Erythromycin thiocyanate is a crystalline powder, colorless or yellowish, with a strong ammonia odor. Its solubility is poor, insoluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol and methanol.
