    Mercurous iodide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula HgI2. It has two variants. One is red mercurous iodide, a tetragonal crystal, with a density of 6.36 g/cm3 (at 25℃). It turns yellow at 127℃ and reverts to red upon cooling. The other is yellow mercurous iodide, an orthorhombic crystal, with a density of 6.094 g/cm3 (at 127℃), a melting point of 259℃, and a boiling point of 354℃. It is unstable at room temperature and transforms into the stable red variant after a few hours. It is insoluble in water but soluble in methanol, ethanol, ether, chloroform, glycerol, acetone, dithiocarbonane, and sodium thiosulfate solution. It is used in medicine and as a chemical reagent. Mercurous iodide exists in nature in the form of the extremely rare iodine-mercury ore (Coccinite).

    5. In medicine, mercury iodide is used to treat syphilis. In veterinary medicine, mercury iodide is contained in ointments for treating bone spurs and enlarged mucous cysts.

Wash the stomach with water or 2% sodium bicarbonate solution (avoid using physiological saline). Give milk or egg white for drinking. Seek medical attention.


    Storage Method: Store in a dedicated warehouse that is cool and well-ventilated, and implement the system of "double-person receiving and dispatch, double-person custody". Keep away from fire sources and heat sources. Avoid exposure to light. Seal the packaging. Store separately from oxidants, edible chemicals, and avoid mixing them. Avoid contact with bromides, chlorides, ammonia, alkalis, cyanides, copper salts, lead salts, iodoform, and hydrogen peroxide. Appropriate materials should be available to contain the leakage at the storage area.
    Transportation Method: Before transportation, check whether the packaging containers are intact and sealed. During transportation, ensure that the containers do not leak, collapse, fall, or damage. Strictly prohibit mixed transportation with acids, oxidants, food, and food additives.
