S-(2-aminoethyl) Isothiourea is a non-selective inhibitor of all NOS isoforms. For human nNOS, eNOS, and iNOS, the Kivalues are 1.8, 2.1, and 0.59 μM, respectively.
Crystallise the salt from absolute EtOH/ethyl acetate or MeOH. Store dry as it is hygroscopic in a humid atmosphere. It is a radioprotective agent. When refluxed in EtOH for 16hours or H2O for 30minutes, it decomposes to 2-amino-4(5H)-thiazoline hydrobromide which on recrystallisation from isoPrOH/EtOAc has m 175-176o [Doherty et al.
