(1) Viscosity range
Relying on advanced production technology, the viscosity can be precisely controlled. Using a Brookfield viscometer, under the test conditions of 25℃ and 2% aqueous solution:
Low-viscosity type: 5-25 mpa · s, suitable for scenarios with high fluidity requirements, such as serving as a mild thickener for water-based coatings without affecting the leveling property of the system.
Medium viscosity type: 25-100mPa · s, commonly used as a printing paste for reactive dyes in the dyeing and printing industry, ensuring uniform dispersion and precise dyeing of dyes.
High-viscosity type: 100-1000 mpa · s, suitable for fields with strict requirements for suspension and shaping effects, such as serving as a suspending agent in metalworking fluids to prevent particle sedimentation.
(II) Purity and Impurity Control
The purity of industrial-grade sodium alginate can reach 80% - 95%, and impurities are strictly controlled.
Moisture content: ≤15%, effectively preventing caking and mold growth caused by excessive moisture during storage and use, ensuring product stability.
Ash content: ≤15%, reducing the interference of inorganic impurities on the performance of downstream products. For example, when used as a sizing agent in the papermaking industry, it does not affect the whiteness and physical strength of the paper.
Insoluble substances: Extremely low levels, ensuring uniform dispersion in aqueous solutions and not clogging production equipment pipelines.
(3) pH stability
The pH value of a 1% aqueous solution is stable at 6-8, showing weak alkalinity and having good compatibility with most industrial systems. In acidic systems, the stability of the system can be maintained by adjusting the addition amount or compounding buffers. For instance, in acidic coatings and metal cleaning solutions, it can still perform thickening and dispersing functions.
Iii. Application Fields and Value
(1) Dyeing and printing industry
As a core raw material for reactive dye printing paste, it has excellent rheological properties and water retention:
It enables the dye to be evenly dispersed, making the outline of the printed pattern clear and the color bright, and increasing the color yield by 10% to 15%.
It has excellent thixotropy, making it easy to pass through the screen during scraping and quickly set after scraping, reducing the phenomenon of seepage. It is suitable for printing on various fibers such as cotton, linen and silk.
(2) Papermaking industry
Paper strengthening agent: Combined with paper fibers, it builds a three-dimensional network structure, increasing the tensile strength of paper by 15% - 20% and the bursting strength by 10% - 15%, especially suitable for the production of high-strength packaging paper and specialty paper.
Sizing agent: It endows the paper surface with water resistance, replaces part of the traditional synthetic latex, reduces production costs, and at the same time enhances the environmental friendliness of the paper.
(3) Coatings and Adhesives
It is used as a thickener and stabilizer in water-based coatings to prevent pigment sedimentation and improve leveling. The formed coating is smooth and flat, and the number of times it can be scrubbed is increased by 20% to 30%.
