It reacts with chain extender, cross-linking agent or curative at room temperature or high temperature to form the three-dimensional network structure of thermosetting polymer. It has excellent characteristics, such as, good mechanical properties, hydrolysis resistance, acid and alkali resistance, wear resistance, cold temperature tolerance, electrical insulating property.

HTPB are mainly used as binder in aerospace solid rocket propellant. HTPB is poured into the engine propulsion system and cured together with oxidizer, aluminum powder and high-energy combustion materials, and is used as a binder for solid rockets and various missile propellants. It is also used as a propellant binder for the propulsion, direction change, escape and deceleration systems of spacecraft.
