    **Product Name: Dichlorodiethylsilane**
    **CAS No.: 1719-53-5**
    **Molecular Formula: C₄H₁₀Cl₂Si**
    **Molecular Weight: 157.11 g/mol**
    **Purity: ≥97%–99% (GC), customizable**
**Appearance: Colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid with pungent odor**

    **Product Overview**

Dichlorodiethylsilane is a high-purity organosilicon intermediate featuring two ethyl groups and two reactive chlorine atoms bonded to a central silicon atom. [[10]] This versatile chlorosilane compound serves as a critical building block in specialty silicone synthesis, offering unique molecular architecture that imparts enhanced hydrophobicity, thermal stability, and flexibility to silicone polymers compared to methyl-substituted analogs. Its controlled reactivity profile enables precise incorporation into complex silicone architectures including fluids, resins, and crosslinkers. The compound's moisture-sensitive nature requires careful handling under inert atmosphere, but this same characteristic drives efficient hydrolysis-condensation reactions essential for producing high-performance silicone materials with tailored properties for demanding industrial applications.

    **Main Applications**

    **Specialty Silicone Synthesis**
Essential monomer for producing ethyl-modified silicones with superior low-temperature flexibility, enhanced hydrophobicity, and improved compatibility with organic polymers. Particularly valuable for synthesizing specialty silicone fluids, resins, and elastomers requiring extended service temperature ranges and resistance to environmental degradation.

    **Surface Treatment & Modification**
Key reagent for hydrophobic surface treatment of inorganic materials including silica, glass fibers, and mineral fillers. [[18]] Forms stable siloxane bonds that dramatically reduce surface energy, improving moisture resistance, dispersion characteristics, and compatibility in composite formulations for rubber, plastics, and coatings.

    **Crosslinking Agent Development**
Critical component in formulating moisture-cure silicone systems and RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) sealants. The dual chlorosilane functionality enables controlled crosslink density adjustment, allowing formulators to optimize cure speed, mechanical properties, and final product performance for construction sealants and industrial adhesives.

    **Polymer Modification & Hybrid Materials**
Building block for synthesizing silicone-organic hybrid polymers and block copolymers with tailored phase behavior. Enables development of novel materials combining silicone advantages (thermal stability, weatherability) with organic polymer benefits (mechanical strength, processability) for advanced coating and elastomer applications.

    **Pharmaceutical & Agrochemical Intermediates**
Specialized intermediate in synthesizing silicon-containing bioactive molecules and prodrugs where ethyl substitution provides optimized lipophilicity and metabolic stability profiles compared to methyl analogs.

    **Analytical Chemistry & Reference Standards**
High-purity grade material serves as calibration standard and reference compound for GC-MS analysis of organosilicon compounds in environmental monitoring, quality control laboratories, and forensic investigations.

    **Product Features**

    Experimental Properties:

Readily hydrolyzed with liberation of hydrochloric acid|The reaction of organosilanes with halogens and halogen compounds usually proceeds in good yield through cleavage of the Si--H bond and formation of the silicon-halogen bond. Reaction with fluorine, however, does not proceed satisfactorily because of cleavage of not only the Si--H but also C--Si and C--H bonds. Direct halogenation with chlorination, bromine, and iodine proceeds smoothly, however. /Organosilanes/

    Air and Water Reactions:

Highly flammable. Readily decomposed by water to hydrochloric acid with evolution of heat. Diethyldichlorosilane reacts vigorously with water to generate gaseous HCl. Based on a scenario where the chemical is spilled into an excess of water (at least 5 fold excess of water), half of the maximum theoretical yield of hYDROGEN cHLORIDE gas will be created in 14 minutes. Experimental details are in the following: "Development of the Table of Initial Isolation and Protective Distances for the 2008 Emergency Response Guidebook", ANL/DIS-09-2, D.F. Brown, H.M. Hartmann, W.A. Freeman, and W.D. Haney, Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne, Illinois, June 2009.

    Reactivity Profile:

Chlorosilanes, such as DIETHYLDICHLOROSILANE, are compounds in which silicon is bonded to from one to four chlorine atoms with other bonds to hydrogen and/or alkyl groups. Chlorosilanes react with water, moist air, or steam to produce heat and toxic, corrosive fumes of hydrogen chloride. They may also produce flammable gaseous H2. They can serve as chlorination agents. Chlorosilanes react vigorously with both organic and inorganic acids and with bases to generate toxic or flammable gases.
