p-Methoxyacetophenone is an aromatic compound with a sweet, fruity, nutty, and vanilla-like aroma. It sometimes smells like butter or caramel. At room temperature, p-methoxyacetophenone is a solid, existing as white to pale yellow crystals. When melted, the white crystals become a clear liquid. This compound is used as a cigarette additive, flavoring agent, and food flavoring. p-Methoxyacetophenone can be found naturally in castoreum (the secretion of the beaver's glands). p-Methoxyacetophenone can be synthesized from anisole and acetyl chloride via a Friedel-Crafts reaction. Chemically, it is a colorless or nearly colorless oily liquid that solidifies at slightly lower temperatures. It has a strong hawthorn-like aroma with fruity and floral notes, similar to the aroma of acetophenone. Boiling point: 226°C, melting point: -23°C, flash point: 96°C. It is soluble in ethanol and most non-volatile oils, slightly soluble in propylene glycol and mineral oil, and insoluble in glycerol and water. Natural products are found in rosewood essential oil, mimosa flower oil, and other similar products.Uses:

Used as a fragrance, herbicide intermediate, and in organic synthesis. It can be used in fragrances such as mimosa, hawthorn, acacia, locust, primrose, sunflower, hyacinth, lilac, lily, costus, and moss. It can be used in combination with coumarins, anisaldehyde, and jasmine aldehyde in soap-making lavender, frangipani, jasmine, and new-cut grass types.

It can be used in trace amounts in almond and vanilla bean-scented food flavorings, and also in small amounts in tobacco flavorings.

Uses: This product has a fragrance similar to hawthorn flowers, with notes of alfalfa, honey, and strawberry; the floral and fruity aroma is sharp and sweet. It can be used to formulate acacia-type soap-making lilac-type flavorings, and also as a fruit and food flavoring.
