What is Propoxur ?

Propoxur is a non-invasive insecticide. It has touching, stomach poisoning and fumigation effects, with fast knockdown, long duration of effect. It can kill ectoparasites, household hygiene pests (mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, etc.) and storage pests.

Application

For the preparation of methyl isocyanate, see preparation method of menafyl. The synthesis of propoxur dissolved 1mol o-isopropoxyphenol in dioxane. Add 1mol of acid ligator, add 1mol of solid methylcarbamoyl chloride under stirring, stir at room temperature for 1h, then pour the mixture into ice water, stir fully, and filter completely, wash with cold water and petroleum ether, propoxur was obtained after drying, the yield was 75%, the melting point was 90.5 ~ 91℃. It has been reported in foreign literature that propoxur is produced by isocyanate method, which is the reaction of o-isopropoxyphenol and isocyanide methyl ester in dioxane solvent. Propoxur was prepared by washing, drying and recrystallization with yield of 84%.
