The molybdate has a relatively low toxicity and causes less environmental pollution. It is currently one of the widely used new water treatment agents. To achieve better sustained-release effects, molybdate is often combined with polyphosphate, glucose acid salt, zinc salt, and benzotriazole for use. This not only reduces the usage of molybdate but also enhances the corrosion inhibition effect. The dosage of molybdate after compounding ranges from 4 to 6 mg/L, down from 200 to 500 mg/L. During the film formation process of molybdate, dissolved oxygen is necessary, but calcium ions (or other divalent metal ions) are not required. Molybdate has high thermal stability and can be used in circulating water systems with high heat flux and local overheating. Sodium molybdate can be used as a precipitant, catalyst, and molybdenum salt for the precipitation of alkaloids, inks, fertilizers, molybdenum red pigments, and sun-resistant pigments, as well as a catalyst for flame retardants and metal inhibitors for pollution-free cold water systems. It is also used as a galvanizing agent, polishing agent, and chemical reagent.
