ARA-290, a peptide compound chemically named cibinetide (CAS 1208243-50-8), is an erythropoietin (EPO) derivative and a specific EPO/CD131 heterologous receptor agonist. It is widely used in neurological research by binding to tissue protective receptors. The compound inhibits high-glucose-induced apoptosis in NRK-52E cells. In stress conditions, cibinetide protects isolated human islets and enhances portal vein islet transplantation efficacy. It also improves corneal nerve fiber density in patients with sarcoidosis-related small nerve fiber loss and neuropathic pain. ARA-290 alleviates pathophysiological pain by targeting TRPV1 channels, involving mechanisms of immune system and injury perception integration. The compound appears as white to off-white solid or powder. ARA-290 is primarily used in scientific research, particularly for studying the mechanisms of neurological disorders. By activating the EPO/CD131 receptor pathway, it may exert neuroprotective or anti-inflammatory effects, though its clinical applications are still under investigation.
