Mechanical growth factor (MGF) is a key peptide derived from the insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) gene, mainly involved in muscle growth, repair and regeneration.

MGF, also known as IGF-IEb or mechanical growth factor E (MGF-E), plays a significant role in muscle hypertrophy and the activation of muscle satellite cells after exercise-induced muscle injury.

Muscle regeneration and repair: This is its most crucial effect. MGF can activate muscle satellite cells, which not only promotes the formation of new muscle fibers but also accelerates protein synthesis, thereby achieving muscle cell proliferation and hypertrophy.

Other tissue protection and repair: Besides muscle, MGF also has the potential for multi-tissue repair. The C-terminal peptide segment of MGF has a significant neuroprotective effect on cerebral ischemia. In the sand rat transient cerebral ischemia model, this peptide segment can effectively protect vulnerable neurons; in the in vitro hippocampal tissue culture model, its neuroprotective effect lasts longer than recombinant IGF-1. In addition, it may also have protective effects on cartilage and cardiac tissues, and can alleviate mechanical damage to cartilage caused by running and weightlifting, and may also play a regulatory role through signaling pathways in periodontal ligament remodeling, assisting in the repair of periodontal tissues.
