Piperlongumine (PPLGM, Piplartine) is a natural alkaloid found in Piper longum, a plant in the Piperaceae family. It increases reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and selectively kills cancer cells. It is also a direct inhibitor of TrxR1, exhibiting inhibitory activity against gastric cancer; a novel CRM1 inhibitor; and can inhibit PI3K/Akt/mTOR in human breast cancer cells.
