Saikosaponins (also known as Saikosaponins) are the key pharmacologically active components extracted from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb Bupleurum (primarily the Apiaceae plants Bupleurum chinense or Bupleurum narrow-leaved).

Saikosaponin A (SSa): primarily responsible for anticonvulsant, analgesic and antiviral effects. Saikosaponin D (SSd): possesses potent activity and is renowned for its anti-inflammatory, antitumour and hepatoprotective and nephroprotective properties. Saikosaponin B is derived from types A and D and similarly exhibits excellent biological activity.Commonly used for the treatment and prevention of conditions such as colds, fever and weakened immunity in poultry and livestock

Function of Bupleurum Chinense Extract:

Antipyretic and analgesic:  By influencing the hypothalamic thermoregulatory centre and inhibiting the release of pyrogenic substances (such as prostaglandin E2), it achieves a gentle and sustained antipyretic effect.

Anti-inflammatory and antiviral : Bupleurum saponins (particularly types a and d) effectively inhibit inflammatory exudation and tissue swelling, and exert an inhibitory effect on various viruses commonly found in poultry and livestock (such as Newcastle disease and porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome).

Immunomodulation : Acts as a natural vaccine adjuvant, stimulating the phagocytic function of macrophages in animals, enhancing humoral and cellular immunity, and strengthening the body’s resistance to disease.

Hepatoprotection and cholagogue : Protects liver cell membranes, reduces toxin-induced liver damage, and promotes bile secretion, demonstrating significant efficacy in treating liver and gallbladder damp-heat or metabolic disorders in poultry and pets.

Antipyretic and antiviral injections: Often combined with ingredients such as Scutellaria baicalensis and Lonicera japonica to form traditional Chinese medicine injections, used for colds, influenza and various persistent high-fever symptoms in pigs, cattle, sheep and pets.

Alleviates stress reactions in animals caused by relocation, weaning or sudden changes in weather, and promotes appetite and growth.
