The primary effect is selective contraction of the iris sphincter muscle, resulting in miosis (pupil constriction). Unlike pilocarpine, which affects the ciliary muscle, aceclidine works more selectively on the pupil sphincter muscle with minimal stimulation of the ciliary muscle, reducing the risk of accommodative myopic shift.
