    Product Overview

1,3-Dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone (commonly abbreviated as DMI) is a high-performance aprotic polar solvent with outstanding comprehensive properties. It appears as a colorless transparent low-viscosity liquid at room temperature. Featuring strong solvency, excellent thermal and chemical stability, low volatility and mild toxicity, DMI has become a premium alternative to traditional hazardous solvents including DMF, DMSO, NMP and HMPA. It is widely adopted in fine chemical synthesis, pharmaceutical manufacturing, polymer materials, electronic cleaning and multiple industrial fields, and has gained wide recognition for stable performance and regulatory compliance.

    Product Grades & Quality Standards

We supply multiple grades to satisfy diverse application scenarios:
    1. Industrial Grade

      Purity ≥ 98.0%, Moisture ≤ 0.2%

Suitable for general chemical synthesis, polymer processing and industrial cleaning.
    2. High-Purity Grade

      Purity ≥ 99.0%, Moisture ≤ 0.1%

Ideal for pharmaceutical intermediate synthesis, fine chemicals and electronic materials.
    3. Analytical Grade

Purity ≥ 99.5% (detected by capillary GC)

Specially used for residual solvent analysis and laboratory research.

    Core Advantages of DMI

    1. Powerful Solvency

It can dissolve a wide range of organic compounds, inorganic salts and polymers, effectively improving reaction efficiency and reducing side reactions.
    2. Excellent Stability

Resistant to high temperature, acid and alkali; applicable to harsh reaction conditions such as high-temperature cyclization and nucleophilic substitution.
    3. Low Volatility & High Safety

Higher flash point and lower vapor pressure than conventional polar solvents, reducing fire and inhalation risks in workshops. Its toxicological profile is superior to NMP and DMF, complying with stricter global environmental and occupational safety regulations.
    4. Easy Post-Processing

Moderate boiling point facilitates solvent recovery via distillation, cutting production costs and waste discharge.

    Main Applications

    1. Pharmaceutical & Agrochemical Synthesis

As a high-quality reaction solvent, DMI is widely used in the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, pesticides and herbicides. It accelerates alkylation, silylation and nucleophilic substitution reactions, and effectively inhibits by-product generation, which helps improve product yield and purity. It is a preferred solvent for the R&D and production of many high-end APIs.

    2. Polymer & New Materials

Applied in the polymerization and processing of heat-resistant thermoplastics, synthetic resins and rubber. It optimizes polymerization conditions, enhances material stability and mechanical properties, and serves as a processing additive for high-performance polymer products.

    3. Electronic Industry

Used as a high-efficiency cleaning agent for photoresist stripping, equipment surface decontamination and electronic component cleaning. It features strong detergency and no residue, meeting the high cleanliness requirements of the electronic manufacturing industry.

    4. Fine Chemicals & Other Fields

Used in organic synthesis, dye processing and surface treatment agents. It can also act as a reaction additive to catalyze special organic conversions, and is applicable to laboratory research and custom
    chemical production.

    Packaging & Storage

    Packaging Specifications

    • Standard package: 200 kg iron drum
    • Custom packages  are available for laboratory and small-batch orders.

    Storage Requirements

    1. Store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, open flames and strong oxidants.
    2. The product is slightly hygroscopic. Keep containers tightly sealed; long-term storage is recommended under nitrogen protection to prevent moisture absorption and oxidation.
    3. Separated from acids, alkalis, oxidants and food raw materials during storage and transportation; do not mix loading.
    4. Shelf life: 24 months under proper storage conditions.

    Safety Instructions

DMI is a combustible liquid with mild irritation. It may cause discomfort to skin, eyes and respiratory tracts upon direct contact.
    • Wear chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles and dust-proof respirators during operation; ensure workshop ventilation.
    • In case of skin or eye contact, rinse immediately with plenty of running water for no less than 15 minutes and seek medical advice if irritation persists.
    • In case of leakage, absorb the liquid with inert materials such as sand and collect it into sealed containers.
    • Dispose of waste liquid and contaminated materials in accordance with local environmental regulations.

    Our Service Advantages
