    Product Overview

1-Acetylimidazole (N-Acetylimidazole, CAS: 2466-76-4, MF: C₅H₆N₂O, MW: 110.11, EINECS: 219-577-7) is a white to off-white crystalline powder or colorless crystal, mp 99–105 °C, readily soluble in methanol and organic solvents, soluble in water with rapid hydrolysis to imidazole and acetic acid (moisture sensitive). It is a mild, selective acetylating agent for hydroxyl and amino groups, widely used as a pharmaceutical intermediate (e.g., Ozagrel synthesis) and in biochemical research for protein/peptide acetylation and catalytic systems. C.I. / HS Code: 2933.29.00.

    Key Features & Advantages

    • Selective Acetylating Reagent: Transfers acetyl group under mild conditions without strong acid/base; ideal for lab-scale acetylation of biomolecules.

    • High Purity Reagent Grade: ≥98% assay, low residual imidazole, suitable for pharma intermediate and fine organic synthesis.

    • Stable When Dry: Stable as dry crystals under argon at 0–4 °C / 2–8 °C; seal tightly to avoid moisture-induced hydrolysis.

    • Versatile Intermediate: Key building block for APIs (antiplatelet Ozagrel), glycosylation promoters, and MOF/catalyst ligands.

    Main Applications

✔ Pharmaceutical intermediate – Ozagrel and other imidazole-based APIs synthesis

✔ Biochemical research – acetylating agent for proteins, peptides, nucleosides; used in structure–function studies

    ✔ Organic synthesis – mild N-acetylation; promoter in copper-catalyzed glycosidation and cross-couplings

✔ Material science – ligand/precursor for metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and coordination polymers

    Storage & Handling

Store in a cool, dry place, tightly sealed under inert atmosphere (argon or nitrogen) at 2–8 °C to prevent moisture uptake and hydrolysis. Moisture sensitive / hygroscopic; keep away from water, strong acids/bases, and oxidizing agents. Handle in a well-ventilated area with local exhaust; use gloves, safety goggles, and N95 dust mask when handling powder. Not classified as GHS hazardous substance per major schemes, but irritant potential present.

    Safety Summary

    • Hazard: Irritant (GHS07 exclamation mark); may irritate eyes, skin, respiratory tract (H315/H319/H335). Rapid hydrolysis releases acetic acid and imidazole, which can cause local irritation. Not acutely toxic under normal handling; mouse ip LDLo 250 mg/kg (high-dose parenteral only).

    • GHS Labeling (typical): Exclamation mark pictogram; H315/H319/H335; P261/P305+P351+P338.

    • Intended Use: For laboratory organic synthesis, pharmaceutical intermediate, and biochemical acetylation research. Not for food, drug, or cosmetic direct use unless further processed to API grade.
