It can dissolve resins, nitrocellulose, acrylic resins, alkyd resins, epoxy resins, and other polymeric materials. It serves as a core film-forming aid and diluent in the coatings industry. In water-based wood finishes, industrial bake coatings, and architectural emulsion paints, it reduces the surface tension of the system, slows the rate of solvent evaporation, and improves the paint film’s leveling, gloss, and adhesion, while preventing defects such as pinholes, craters, and whitening.
