What is zinc pyrithione?

Zinc Pyrithione (ZPT) is a zinc containing organic compound with core functions of antifungal and antibacterial. It works by disrupting microbial cell membranes and interfering with metabolism, and has a significant effect on Malassezia, which causes dandruff.
It is widely used in daily chemical (0.3% -1% concentration of dandruff shampoo) and industrial (anti mold coating) fields. It has low irritation when used in compliance, but it is strictly prohibited to take orally and should be avoided from sensitive mucous membranes.
