                                        Synthetic Process

                                        2-Amino-3-hydroxypyridine is synthesized through the following routes:

                                        • Reduction of 2-nitro-3-hydroxypyridine: 2-Nitro-3-hydroxypyridine is reduced using hydrogen and a metal catalyst (such as palladium on carbon) or by chemical reduction with iron or tin in acidic medium.

                                        • Hydroxylation of 2-aminopyridine: 2-Aminopyridine is hydroxylated at the 3-position using suitable hydroxylation reagents.

                                        • Purification: The crude product is purified by recrystallization from water or ethanol.
