• N,N-Dimethylformamide (CAS 68-12-2), commonly abbreviated as DMF, is a polar aprotic solvent appearing as a colorless to light yellow clear liquid with a faint amine-like odor . With the molecular formula C₃H₇NO and a molecular weight of 73.09 g/mol, it is characterized by a melting point of -61°C, a boiling point of 153°C, and a flash point of 58°C .

  With a purity of ≥99.9% by GC, DMF is miscible with water and most organic solvents including ethanol, chloroform, and ether . The compound is hygroscopic and slightly decomposes at its normal boiling point, producing small quantities of dimethylamine and carbon monoxide
