Ammonium molybdate tetrahydrate is an inorganic molybdenum salt with the molecular formula (NH₄)₆Mo₇O₂₄·4H₂O and a molecular weight of 1235.86 g/mol. This white to off-white crystalline powder is a water-soluble molybdenum compound widely used as a source of molybdenum in various applications. It serves as an analytical reagent for the determination of phosphate and silicate, as a catalyst precursor for hydrodesulfurization and other industrial processes, and as a micronutrient in fertilizers. The tetrahydrate form provides excellent stability and solubility characteristics.

Synthetic Process

Ammonium molybdate tetrahydrate is manufactured through the following routes:

• Reaction of molybdenum trioxide with ammonium hydroxide: Molybdenum trioxide (MoO₃) is dissolved in ammonium hydroxide solution to form ammonium molybdate, which is then crystallized as the tetrahydrate.

• Purification: The crude product is purified by recrystallization from water.

• Analytical Reagent: Used as a reagent for the determination of phosphate, silicate, and other anions in water and environmental samples.
