    Brief introduction     


     Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), also known as diphosphopyridin* nucleotide (DPN), or coenzyme I or coenzyme I. The oxidized state (NAD+) has a maximum ultraviolet absorption spectrum of 260 nanometers, and accepts a hydrogen atom and an electron from the substrate through various deaminating enzymes to become the reduced state (NADHChemicalbook), with a maximum absorption spectrum of 340 nanometers. β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is used as a coenzyme in redox reactions, as a donor of the ribose portion of ADP in ADP ribosylation reactions, and as a precursor to the second messenger molecule, cyclic ADP ribose. β-nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide is also a substrate for bacterial DNA ligases and a group of enzymes known as sirtuins, which utilize NAD+ to scavenge acetyl groups from proteins. Acetyl groups are removed from proteins using NAD+.
