Description
Carbon disulfide (carbon bisulfide; CS2; CASRN 75-15-0), in its pure form is a colorless liquid that evaporates readily at room temperature, with a sweet aromatic odor similar to that of chloroform. In its impure commercial and reagent form, however, carbon disulfide is a yellowish liquid with a foulsmelling odor. It can be detected by odor at about 1 ppm but the sense of smell fatigues rapidly and, therefore, odor does not serve as a good warning property. It has a vapor pressure of 297mmHg an

Explosive when mixed with air
Stable. Extremely flammable. Highly volatile. Note low flash point and very wide explosion limits. Protect from heat, friction, shock, sunlight. Reacts violently with fluorine, azide solutions, zinc dust, liquid chlorine in the presence of iron. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, azides, aluminium, zinc, most common met

Carbon disulfide Use and Manufacturing
The methane sulfur method solid sulfur is heated and melted into a liquid state, and then purified with activated clay. Natural gas purification treatment uses light diesel oil to adsorb fractions above G to separate out pure methane gas. After heating, the natural gas and sulfur vapor can be fully mixed and heated to 650°C, and then sent to the reactor for reaction. Pressure distillate method is used to separate carbon disulfide and hydrogen sulfide, and carbon disulfide is prepared after rectification. The CH4+2S2→Cs2+2It2S↑ charcoal sulfur method can be divided into two types according to different heating methods: external heating iron furnace method and internal heating electric furnace method. The three-phase electric furnace method is generally used. In the electric furnace method, the charcoal is directly roasted at 800°C to remove moisture and organic matter, and then intermittently added to the electric furnace. The molten sulfur is continuously added to the electric furnace to react with the red charcoal at about 1000°C. The resulting carbon disulfide is desulfurized and condensed to obtain crude products, which are then refined Distillation and condensation to produce carbon disulfide products. Its C+2S→CS2
In the manufacture of rayon, carbon tetrachloride, xanthogenates, soil disinfectants, electronic vacuum tubes.Solvent for phosphorus, sulfur, selenium, bromine, iodine, fats, resins, rubbers.
