Physical & Chemical Properties

Appearance & Form:    White, deliquescent solid available in the form of flakes, pellets (pearls), or solid fused lumps; odorless.

Solubility:    Freely soluble in water and in ethanol, releasing a significant amount of heat (exothermic reaction).

Assay (Sodium Hydroxide, NaOH):    Not less than 99.0% w/w (Technical / Industrial grade standard).

pH Value:    Strongly alkaline, a 1% aqueous solution has a pH of approximately 14.

Melting Point:    Approximately 318°C.

Quality & Safety Standards

Sodium Carbonate (Na2CO3):    Not more than 1.0% max.

Sodium Chloride (NaCl):    Not more than 0.05% to 0.1% max.

Heavy Metals (as Fe):    Strictly controlled; Iron content generally not more than 0.005% (50 ppm).

Safety & Handling:   Highly corrosive material that causes severe skin burns and eye damage. Requires appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, eye/face protection, and rubber aprons during handling.

Recommended Applications

Chemical Manufacturing:    Used as a fundamental chemical reagent in the production of various organic and inorganic chemicals, dyes, and pigments.

Soap & Detergent Industry   : Widely utilized in saponification processes for manufacturing soaps, household cleaning agents, and heavy-duty industrial detergents.

Textile Processing:    Employed in cotton scouring, mercerizing, and bleaching processes to improve dye uptake and fabric luster.

Water Treatment & Pulp/Paper:   Used for pH adjustment, neutralization, wastewater treatment, and in the delignification process during wood pulp bleaching in the paper industry.
