Periodic Acid (orthoperiodic acid, H5IO6; meta form HIO4), CAS No. 10450-60-9, is a white, crystalline, odorless inorganic acid of iodine with a slight hygroscopic nature. Our industry-grade product offers a minimum assay of 99.0% and is produced under strict quality control to deliver consistent oxidation performance for both industrial processes and laboratory analysis.

Main Applications

As one of the most powerful and selective oxidizing agents, periodic acid is widely used in organic synthesis. It cleaves 1,2-diols, oxidizes primary and secondary alcohols to aldehydes and ketones, and participates in the oxidation of sugars, starch derivatives and other polyhydroxy compounds. It is an essential reagent in the classic Malaprade reaction for the determination of glycerol, glycols, ethylene oxide derivatives and other polyols. In the pharmaceutical industry, it serves as a key oxidant in the manufacture of drug intermediates, vitamins and fine chemicals. It is also applied in dyestuffs and pigments, electronics etching and cleaning, specialty coatings, and textile processing auxiliaries.

Packing & Storage

Standard packing: 25 kg fiber drum lined with double polyethylene bags. Optional packings include 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg HDPE drums or aluminum foil bags, as well as 100 g and 500 g lab bottles. Drums are palletized with 20 drums per pallet and shrink-wrapped for safe sea transport, with approximately 9 MT per 20-foot container. Store in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dry and well-ventilated warehouse, away from heat, direct sunlight, combustible materials and reducing agents. Shelf life: 24 months under proper storage.
