DescriptionECHEMI Editorial ReferenceTungsten trioxide (WO₃), also known as tungsten(VI) oxide, is a yellow crystalline solid with notable physical and chemical properties. It has a density of approximately 7.16 g/cm³ and exhibits polymorphism, undergoing structural transitions at various temperatures: tetragonal above 740°C, orthorhombic between 330°C and 740°C, monoclinic from 17°C to 330°C, triclinic between -50°C and 17°C, and reverting to monoclinic below -50°C. The compound is insoluble in water but slightly soluble in hydrofluoric acid. It can be synthesized through the calcination of ammonium paratungstate (APT) under oxidizing conditions, yielding WO₃ along with the release of ammonia and water vapor. Basic Info
