Its boiling point is 82–83 °C (at 101.3 kPa), refractive index 1.4665, and density 0.994. It features high dissolving power, low vapor pressure, and low dielectric constant. Industrially, it can be used as a highly efficient selective solvent, a catalyst, and a cationic surfactant.
