Chemical Composition

Cremophor EL is a non‑ionic surfactant synthesized by addition polymerization of natural castor oil with ethylene oxide. Multiple grades (EL‑10, EL‑20, EL‑30, EL‑40, EL‑60, EL‑80) are available with different moles of ethylene oxide (EO). The classic Cremophor EL is Polyoxyl‑35 Castor Oil, produced by reacting 1 mole castor oil with 35 moles ethylene oxide.

Physical & Chemical Properties

‑ Appearance: Pale‑yellow to yellow clear viscous liquid for low‑EO grades; paste / waxy solid for high‑EO grades. ‑ HLB value: 6‑16 (increases with EO content; typical HLB of Cremophor EL‑35:12‑14). ‑ pH value (1% aqueous solution): 5.0‑7.0. ‑ Solubility: Soluble in water, ethanol and many organic solvents; good stability in hard water and moderate acid‑alkali environment. ‑ Non‑ionic character, good compatibility with anionic, cationic and other non‑ionic surfactants.

Key Features

Excellent performance in emulsification, solubilization, dispersion, wetting and antistatic. Suitable for preparing oil‑in‑water (O/W) emulsions. Powerful solubilizing capacity for oils and lipophilic substances. Low‑foam property with stable system performance.

Applications

Pharmaceutical: Pharmaceutical excipient, used as solubilizer and emulsifier for fat‑soluble vitamins and poorly‑soluble drugs, creams and liniments. Cremophor EL is a well‑known solubilizing carrier in pharmaceutical formulations.
Agrochemicals: Emulsifier for organophosphorus pesticides, for pesticide EC formulations, improving dispersion and penetration.
Textile: Component for synthetic fiber spinning finish, offering emulsification, antistatic and softening effect, reducing yarn breakage; defoaming for sizing liquor.
Cosmetic & Coating: Emulsifier & solubilizer for cosmetics; emulsifier for ink and emulsion polymerization.
Industrial Auxiliaries: Emulsifier & dispersant for metal working fluid, cleaning agents and lubricants.

Storage & Packing

‑ Storage: Keep tightly sealed in cool, dry and ventilated warehouse, avoid direct sunlight and high temperature. ‑ Packing: Iron drum, net weight 200kg per drum. ‑ Shelf life: 24 months under original sealed condition.
