      Product Detail

It looks like white sugar and has a slightly sweet taste, either as a rhombic crystal (stable form) or a monoclinic crystal (metastable form). It dissolves easily in water and is soluble in ethanol and pyridine-type solvents.

    Items Specifications
     Appearance
white crystals or crystalline powder, odorless
    ChP 2025 description
     Taste
sweetness ca. 100 % of sucrose
clean sweetness without bitter aftertaste; pronounced cooling sensation
    Origin of cooling effect
endothermic dissolution (heat of solution ca. −34.8 cal/g)
a real temperature drop, not a flavor illusion; the core selling point in gum
     Melting point
     91.0–94.5 ℃ (ChP 2025); 92.0–96.0 ℃ (GB 1886.234 / JECFA)
two ranges coexist; state the standard in the COA
     Solubility
very freely soluble in water (ca. 160–170 g/100 mL at 25 ℃); slightly soluble in ethanol; insoluble in ether and chloroform
among the most soluble common sugar alcohols (sorbitol ca. 70 g/100 mL)
     Specific rotation
    +18.0°~+20.0° (organic-grade commercial); +20.0°~+22.0° ([α]D25 commercial)
two commercial specs coexist; confirm the supplier's basis before negotiation and acceptance
pH (10 % aqueous) 5.0~7.0  ChP acidity item; neutral to slightly acidic
     Hygroscopicity
    hygroscopic (explicitly listed in ChP)
weaker than sorbitol yet still requires moisture-proof sealed storage
     Water
    ≤0.5 % (Karl Fischer; GB/JECFA basis)
ChP uses "loss on drying ≤1.0 %" (P₂O₅ under reduced pressure, 24 h)
    Conductivity ≤20 μS·cm⁻¹(ChP 2025)  reflects ionic residues; consistent with GB — a purity-sensitive indicator
     Caloric value
ca. 2.4 kcal/g (US label basis); some European bases use 2.4 kcal/g or 10 kJ/g
    ca. 40 % below sucrose (4 kcal/g), yet not zero-calorie
     GI
    ca. 7–13 (sucrose ca. 65, glucose 100)
insulin-independent metabolism suits diabetic foods; a low GI does not mean unlimited intake
Bulk density 0.60~0.80 g/mL(/ varies with particle size) micronized higher, granular lower; tableting must adjust accordingly
    Particle grades (commercial)
micronized 80–120 mesh; standard 40–80 mesh; granular 20–40 mesh
gums mostly 40–80 mesh; tableting mostly 80–120 mesh
     Boiling point / decomposition
no defined boiling point at atmospheric pressure; decomposes at high temperature
not used as an identification index
    Non-reducing character
no free carbonyl; does not participate in the Maillard reaction
the essential difference from reducing sugars such as glucose and xylose; no browning
    Stability
stable when sealed at room temperature; typical shelf life 36 months
keep dry; aqueous solutions readily support microbial growth in long storage
    ECHEMI Editorial Reference
Xylitol is a chemical categorized as a polyalcohol or sugar alcohol.Target: OthersXylitol is a chemical categorized as a polyalcohol or sugar alcohol (alditol). Xylitol has the formula (CHOH)3(CH2OH)2 and is an achiral isomer of pentane-1,2,3,4,5-pentol. Xylitol is used as a diabetic sweetener which is roughly as sweet as sucrose with 33% fewer calories. Unlike other natural or synthetic sweeteners, xylitol is actively beneficial for dental health by reducing caries to a third in regular
    White, crystalline powder, practically odourless.
Xylitol is a pentitol (five-carbon sugar alcohol) having meso-configuration, being derived from xylose by reduction of the carbonyl group. It has a role as a sweetening agent, an allergen, a hapten, a human metabolite, an algal metabolite, a Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolite and a mouse metabolite.|Xylitol is a naturally occurring five-carbon sugar alcohol found in most plant material, including many fruits and vegetables. Xylitol-rich plant materials include birch and beechwood. It is widely used as a sugar substitute and in "sugar-free" food products. The effects of xylitol on dental caries have been widely studied, and xylitol is added to some chewing gums and other oral care products to prevent tooth decay and dry mouth. Xylitol is a non-fermentable sugar alcohol by most plaque bacteria, indicating that it cannot be fermented into cariogenic acid end-products. It works by inhibiting the growth of the microorganisms present in plaque and saliva after it accummulates intracellularly into the microorganism. The recommended dose of xylitol for dental caries prevention is 6–10 g/day, and most adults can tolerate 40 g/day without adverse events.|A five-carbon sugar alcohol derived from XYLOSE by reduction of the carbonyl group. It is as sweet as sucrose and used as a noncariogenic sweetener.
