To a solution of 7-hydroxy-6, 7-dihydro-5H-pyrrolo[3, 4-b]pyridin-5-one (0.32 g, 2.13 mmol, 1 eq) in acetic acid (8.6 mL), zinc (0.56 g, 8.50 mmol, 4 eq) was added and the suspension was heated at reflux for 24 h.
