2,3,6-Trichloro-5-nitro-pyridine Use and Manufacturing

2, 3, 6-Trichloropyridine (62 mmol, 11.27 g) was dissolved in a mixture of fuming nitric acid (62 mL) and concentrated sulphuric acid (50 mL) and heated at 100°C for 12 hours. The mixture was cooled, carefully poured into ice/water then extracted with dichloromethane. The organic extract was dried (MgS0To Compound 12 (5.47 g, 30 mmol) were added nitric acid (30 mL) and concentrated sulfuric acid (24 mL) at room temperature, and the reaction mixture was warmed up to 100° C. and stirred with heating for approximately 8 hours. The reaction mixture was added to iced water, the resulting mixture was stirred. The precipitated solid was filtered to obtain Compound 13 (6.82 g, 64.7percent). Compound 13; Method B [0817] LC/MS retention time=2.03 min.
