Methods of Manufacturing

Condensation with cyanoacetic acid, dimethyl urea and acetic anhydride to generate 1, 3-dimethyl cyanoacetyl urea, and then cyclize under alkaline conditions to obtain 1, 3-dimethyl-4-iminouracil. The product was obtained by nitrosation.

Uses

Theophylline and caffeine intermediates. It is also used as a reagent for photometric determination of copper.
