High thermal decomposition of oxygen; flammable in contact with sulfuric acid; burning produces toxic bromide and potassium oxide fumes

It forms very flammable mixtures with combustible materials and this mixture may be explosive if the combustible material is very finely divided. Prolonged exposure to fire or heat by the material can result in an explosion.

Potassium bromate Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Electrolysis method dissolves potassium bromide synthesized from bromine and potassium hydroxide with distilled water to prepare an electrolyte. The first batch of crude product is produced after electrolysis for 24h, and then the crude product is taken every 12h. The crude product is washed with water to remove potassium bromide and then dissolved in distilled water. A small amount of potassium hydroxide was added to adjust the pH value to 8, the temperature was kept for 0.5 h, and then filtered, the clear filtrate was cooled to room temperature in a crystallizer, and crystallized, separated, and dried to obtain potassium bromate product. The anode Br-+6OH-→BrO3-+3H2O+6e cathode 6H++6e→3H2↑KBr+3H2O→KBrO3+3H2↑chlorine oxidation method After the lime milk reacts with bromine, chlorine gas is introduced to perform chlorine oxidation reaction to pH When the value reaches 6-7, the reaction is terminated. After removing the residue, the filtrate was evaporated. Add barium chloride solution to produce barium bromate precipitate. Suspend the filtered precipitate with water, maintain a certain temperature and add potassium carbonate for metathesis reaction. Crude potassium bromate is washed with a small amount of distilled water for many times, then filtered, evaporated, cooled and crystallized, separated and dried. , Crushed to produce edible potassium bromate products. Its 6Ca(OH)2+6Br2→Ca(BrO3)3+5CaBr2+6H2OCaBr2+6Cl2+6Ca(OH)2→Ca(BrO3)2+CaCl2+6H2OCa(BrO3)2+BaCl2→Ba(BrO3)2↓+ CaCl2Ba(BrO3)2+K2CO3→2KBrO3+BaCO3↓
