2-Methylnaphthalene Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

2-Methylnaphthalene mainly exists in naphthalene oil fraction (content about 5.48%) and washing oil fraction (content about 8.11%). 1. The narrow fraction that can be crystallized at 237-241°C obtained by distillation of methyl naphthalene fraction is used to prepare 2-methyl naphthalene by freezing crystallization. It is melted at 40-45°C and filtered to obtain 2-methylnaphthalene with a purity of over 97%. 2. It contains about 1.0%-1.8% in high temperature tar. Using washing oil in coal tar as raw material, after dephenolization and depyridine alkalization, a 240-245°C methylnaphthalene fraction is cut out by rectification, and frozen to -20°C. At this time, 2-methylnaphthalene crystallizes out. Then it is refined by sweat crystallization or methanol and ethanol recrystallization to obtain the product.

Uses

Production of vitamin K3, preparation of oral contraceptives, synthesis of plant growth inhibitors, textile printing and dyeing aids, surfactants, important intermediates of feed additives, and β-methylnaphthoquinone as electron transporters to participate in the photosynthesis of organisms and can also be synthesized A variety of biologically active pharmaceutical products.
