Description

A hormone secreted by the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. It increases the rate of removal of iodine from the blood by the thyroid gland, synthesis of the thyroid hormone, and its release into the bloodstream. The thyrotropic hormone is a protein with a low molecular weight (about 10,000) that contains some carbohydrate.

Thyrotropin Use and Manufacturing

Application: TSH test, used with radioactive iodine to identify the lesions of patients with hypothyroidism; used for toxic adenomatous goiter, as an adjunct therapeutic agent to increase the intake of iodine. When radioactive iodine is used to treat thyroid cancer, it can also be used to improve the efficacy. Note: It can cause hyperthyroidism and increase the burden of the cardiovascular system. Heart disease patients and adrenal insufficiency are used with caution or disabled.
