Description

Capreomycin is a peptide antibiotic, commonly grouped with the aminoglycosides, which is given in combination with other antibiotics for MDR-tuberculosis.IC50 value:Target: The drug should not be given with streptomycin or other drugs that may damage the auditory vestibular nerve. Patients on this drug will often require audiology tests. It is a cyclic peptide.Capreomycin is administered intramuscularly and shows bacteriostatic activity.

Capreomycin sulfate Use and Manufacturing

Capreomycin sulfate is a salt of a complex of cyclic pentopeptides isolated from Streptomyces capreolus, first reported in 1962. The sulfate salt is the most commonly accessible formulation of capreomycin and is used for pharmaceutical applications. The complex has two major components, IA and IB, with an exocyclic lysine residue and two minor delysinyl components, IIA and IIB. Capreomycin is a potent antibiotic with activity against mycobateria, Gram positive and Gram negative organisms. Capreomycin acts by binding to the 23S ribosomal subunit, disrupting protein synthesis.

Drug Function and Efficacy

It has an inhibitory effect on Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which may be related to the inhibition of bacterial protein synthesis. When used alone, bacteria are prone to develop drug resistance. There is incomplete cross-resistance with kanamycin and puromycin.

Ingredients	The main ingredient of this product is capreomycin sulfate.
Indication	1. When used in combination with aminoglycosides, it may increase the possibility of ototoxicity, nephrotoxicity and neuromuscular blockade. Hearing loss may occur, which may be temporary and may continue to progress to deafness after drug withdrawal, often permanent. Neuromuscular blockade can lead to skeletal muscle weakness and respiratory depression or respiratory muscle paralysis, which can be helped by anticholinesterase drugs or calcium salts. 2. When used simultaneously or successively with amphotericin B, vancomycin, bacitracin, paromomycin, cyclosporine, carmustine, cisplatin, bumetanide, ethacrynic acid and furosemide, it may increase the possibility of ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity. When used together, hearing and renal function tests should be performed regularly. 3. Antihistamines, buclizine, cyclisone, meclizine, phenothiazines, thioxanthenes and trimethoprim-butyl amine may mask ototoxic symptoms such as tinnitus, dizziness or vertigo when used in combination with this product. 4. When used in combination with anti-neuromuscular blocking drugs, it can antagonize the latter's effect on skeletal muscle. Therefore, the dose of anti-myasthenic drugs needs to be adjusted at the time of or after the combined use. 5. When methoxyflurane or polymyxin injections are used simultaneously or successively with this product, the renal toxicity or neuromuscular blocking effect may increase, so the combined use should be avoided; neuromuscular blocking effects can cause skeletal muscle weakness and respiratory depression or respiratory muscle paralysis; during or after surgery, this product should also be used with caution when used in combination with the two. Anticholinesterase drugs or calcium salts can help blockade recovery. 6. When this product is used in combination with opioid analgesics, the central respiratory depressant effects of the two may be additive, resulting in aggravated respiratory depression or prolonged depression time or respiratory paralysis. Close observation and follow-up are required.
