Description

Crystalline solid; melts in the temperaturerange 117–123°C (242.6–253.4°F); slightlysoluble in water; soluble in most organicsolvents.


3,4,5-trimethylphenyl methylcarbamate is a carbamate ester that consists of 3,4,5-trimethylphenol carrying an O-(N-methylcarbamoyl) group. One of two constituents of trimethacarb. It has a role as an agrochemical and an insecticide. It derives from a 3,4,5-trimethylphenol.

Methods of Manufacturing

The chloroformate method (also known as the cold method) is mainly used in domestic production. It is prepared by esterification and amination of mixed xylenol. The main points of operation are: the refining of mixed xylenol can be distilled off under reduced pressure in the presence of sulfuric acid; the preparation of phosgene toluene solution can be 300kg toluene and 170kg phosgene to make the relative density of phosgene toluene solution reach 1.040~1.045; It is to put 140kg mixed cresol into the prepared phosgene toluene solution at a time, cool to below -10℃, add 20% NaOH dropwise, control the reaction temperature -5℃, the end pH value is 8-9, and after a series of steps Treat the intermediate toluene solution; the amination process is to cool the intermediate toluene solution to about 0°C, and start to add 40% monomethylamine dropwise. After 10 minutes, add NaOH at the same time. The dropwise amount of monomethylamine is about 95kg, sodium hydroxide ( 20%) 140kg was added dropwise, and the end point of the reaction was controlled to pH=11. After a series of post-treatments, the toluene solution of mixed carbaryl is obtained, and the toluene is removed under reduced pressure to obtain chlorhexidine crude oil.
