N-Methylacetoacetamide Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

The preparation method is prepared by the reaction of diketene and methylamine aqueous solution at low temperature. Put 40% methylamine into the enamel kettle, cool to 0°C under stirring, then slowly add freshly distilled diketene (content above 95%) under cooling. The reaction is exothermic and the drip acceleration is controlled so that the reaction temperature does not exceed 20°C and is added in about 3 hours. After 30 minutes of incubation, check whether the conversion of diketene is complete, and then stop the reaction to obtain acetoacetamide, the content is about 65%, and the yield is more than 96%.

Uses

N-Methylacetoacetamide (min. 70% in water) (MMAA) is used as intermediate for the manufacture of insecticides, e.g. monocrotophos Product Data Sheet
