Description

Clear light greenish to amber or brown solution

Tetra-n-butylammonium fluoride, commonly abbreviated to TBAF and n-Bu4NF, is a quaternary ammonium salt with the chemical formula (CH3CH2CH2CH2)4N+F−. It is commercially available as the white solid trihydrate and as a solution in tetrahydrofuran. TBAF is used as a source of fluoride ion in organic solvents.

Tetrabutylammonium fluoride is a fluoride salt and a tetrabutylammonium salt. It has a role as a phase-transfer catalyst.

Drug Information

Purifying or cleansing agents, usually salts of long-chain aliphatic bases or acids, that exert cleansing (oil-dissolving) and antimicrobial effects through a surface action that depends on possessing both hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties. (See all compounds classified as Detergents.)

Tetrabutylammonium fluoride Use and Manufacturing

Methods of Manufacturing

Put a certain amount of tetrabutylammonium hydroxide into the reaction kettle, add water, and stir to dissolve. Put 10% (W/V) hydrofluoric acid aqueous solution into the metering tank and slowly drop it into the reaction kettle until the pH value is about 7. Drive into the crystallizer, cool the crystal, filter, wash the crystal with ice water, and vacuum dry. The finished products are stored in polyethylene containers.

Uses

Reagent in organic syntheses in addition, condensation, base-catalyzed cyclization reactions, fluorination and desulfonylation reactions and as a deprotecting agent.Typically dried prior to use.

1-Butanaminium, N,N,N-tributyl-, fluoride (1:1): ACTIVE|PMN - indicates a commenced PMN (Pre-Manufacture Notices) substance.
