Description

An uncommon typically azure blue mineral consisting of a silicate of sodium, calcium, and aluminum with some sulfur. It and its parent rock, lapis lazuli, are widely used for ornaments and as semiprecious gemstones. Lazurite was the original source of the pigment ultramarine.
