According to coatings manufacturer Rust-Oleum (Vernon Hills, Illinois), six of its products have since been added to the list, and are proven effective on another human coronavirus like SARS-CoV-2 and as well as other similar viruses. The products can therefore also be used against SARS-CoV-2 when used in accordance with the directions for use against coronavirus on hard, non-porous surfaces.

Rust-Oleum reports that its Krud Kutter Heavy Duty Cleaner & Disinfectant is a ready-to-use, one-step, heavy duty cleaner combined with a fume-free disinfectant. It aims to deodorize and kill 99.9% of bacteria and germs, according to the company.

Similarly, the company also produces another Krud Kutter Heavy Duty Cleaner & Disinfectant, however, the latter product is a no-rinse disinfectant cleaner that aims to disinfect, clean and deodorize in one step. The product can be used on hard, non-porous surfaces such as vinyl, plastic, glazed ceramic, glazed porcelain, chrome, sinks and countertops.

Mean Green Anti-Bacterial Multi-Surface Cleaner cleans grease, grime and is reported to also kill 99.9% of bacteria. The product is suited for household kitchens, bathrooms and other areas. The Mean Green brand also produces a Pine Power product which is a multi-purpose cleaner, deodorizer and disinfectant.

For a deeper clean, Rust-Oleum produces a Moldex Disinfectant Concentrate, which the company reports is “a one-step germicidal, disinfectant cleaner and odor neutralizer designed for general cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, and controlling mold and mildew on hard, non-porous inanimate surfaces in the house and around businesses.”

The last Rost-Oleum-made product approved by the EPA for SARS-CoV-2 protection is its Concrobium Disinfectant Cleaner. Different from its cleaning counterparts, Concrobium is a plant-based disinfection made for professional restoration contractors. The product works as a bactericide, virucide, tuberculocide and fungicide that contains no harmful chemicals. Additionally, the solution has no warning labels and requires no PPE.

Other coatings companies with products featuring virus-killing properties mentioned on the EPA-approved list include BASF and Evonik.
