γ-aminobutyric acid may help improve cognitive function
A recent research result clearly shows that γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) can significantly improve the cognitive function of subjects.
GABA is an endogenous amino acid neurotransmitter that naturally occurs in many vegetables, yogurt, kimchi, and food supplements.
As a naturally occurring non-protein amino acid, GABA is an important inhibitory neurotransmitter in the mammalian central nervous system, and about 30% of central nervous synapse sites use GABA as a transmitter. At present, the main research and application of GABA are focused on pressure relief and sleep aid. The health claims of terminal products on the market are basically based on sleep aid.
Recently, in two randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group clinical studies, we mainly evaluated the health effects of γ-aminobutyric acid intake by adult subjects. The study found that it can significantly improve the cognitive function of the subjects. The results of this 12-week study showed that the subjects had improved intelligence tests, and the quality of life assessment findings were better than those taking placebo.
